We built Phaze because our favorite messenger disappeared and nothing else felt right.
The classic desktop messenger we grew up on was retired, and its replacement is a conference-call app for work meetings. We wanted DMs, voice calls, a real contact list — the stuff a proper messenger actually has. So we built it.
Messages are encrypted on your device before they're sent. The server stores ciphertext and cannot read them. Calls run on WebRTC; right now that means a Jitsi Meet room per call rather than Phaze's own relay, which we're moving away from — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what that means for who can see a call.
No tracking, no ads, nothing sold. The code is open source. If you don't want to use our server, run your own with one Docker command.
The repo is at github.com/jakes1345/phazechat.world. Bug reports are the most useful thing right now.
